tick imageHiking in the woods and sand dunes here in Michiana can provide shelter for high populations of black-legged ticks deer ticks (or lxodes scapularis). Ticks maybe slower moving in winter temperatures, but once the snow melts, they become mobile again in a matter of days. Ticks in the nymph stage (spring) can be as small as a poppyseed, thus easy to miss in a full body check. Certain ticks can pass diseases onto humans and pets when they bite including Lyme’s Disease. If you’ve been bitten, the key is catching it early for the best results.
